Aries New Moon 3/21/23-Soul Rise

  • by

This New Moon brings seven celestial messengers in the sign of Aries- the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Chiron, Jupiter, Vesta, and Eris.

It doesn’t take a seasoned astrologer to ascertain the current energy weather forecast.

Aries with a side of Aries.

But what does that mean?

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, summoning themes of significant beginnings and initiations into newness. This theme is also reiterated as the New Moon also occurs with the Spring Equinox, the astrological New Year. Additionally, this New Moon occurs at 0° Aries, which is literally the very first degree of the zodiac itself. This New Moon also occurs a few days before Pluto officially leaves Capricorn and enters Aquarius beginning a new generational cycle (For more on that , go here). Lastly, this New Moon opposes Ceres, the goddess of renewal, fertility, harvest, and (re) birth.

So expect some significant change, some power pivots, and choice points. From an astrological perspective, the last few years have been dense inertia and overall stuckness. That has been intentional. Times of pause are excellent for master classes in precise observation and reflection. We can’t fix or improve what we can’t clearly see. Hopefully, you have embraced this time to clarify some essential realities.

This New Moon, though, we start to feel some forward motion. The intent, of course, is to rise from the ashes of our deepest reflection and begin a new journey with an inspired vision.

The Sabian symbol for this degree is “A woman rises out of water, a seal rises and embraces her.” The last few years have been an initiation of sorts, a plunge into our deepest waters, at least if you are doing it right. We have been baptized in the rivers of radical accountability, consequences, and reality checks. Perhaps you, like many, have surfed the chaotic waves of grief and loss. Perhaps, you are more politically or socially aware. Perhaps, you are more trauma-informed and compassionate. Perhaps, you have found places within that needed healing. Perhaps you have had a total restructuring of what is truly important. And what isn’t. Perhaps, you have been asked (forced?) to rethink and reunderstand the true meaning of the words freedom, service, compassion, discipline, sacrifice, accountability, and truth. Good. That’s the point.

And like heroes on a hero’s journey, after the hero has faced their biggest fear, slayed their inner dragons, and toiled through the uncertainty of the quest, they return to the place they started.

That is where we are.

Now what?

Now, what will we do with our expanded hearts? With our new knowledge, new innovations, discoveries, revelations, and authentic selves?

That is the change we are initiating. Change, by definition, means we put new information into the system. Therefore, we best make sure we are initiating through our best selves.

Because done well, Aries looks like fighting the good fight and healthy assertion. It is inspiring and initiating the charge toward significant innovative and bettering change. Channeled through fear, though, these same forces react, creating overreach of authority, tyranny, and even violence. A clear Aries intention uses encouragement to motivate and grounded response, while a more muddied one uses reactionary control and fear.

Thus, it is vitally important we discern which part of us is setting our intentions because that will determine our trajectory for this new beginning.

Journeys change us. That is what they are for. We are not meant to be the same at the end as we were at the beginning. They are the light conquering the dark. They are the choice points of hope and faith, overtaking despair. They are the birthplaces of grit, resiliency, strength, assertion, authenticity, and courage. They are the burning fires of passion and true anger. Because at times of struggle, we find who we really are.

Baptized in the waters of change, our world does look different. It is meant to. That is the whole point of the quest. Because the hero’s return home has as much purpose as the journey itself. Returning is an opportunity to stand in our new selves, where the wisdom that has been earned is embodied, and it is humbly given back. Therein lies the treasure of all.

Let the best of you lead the way.

“Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach. Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul, to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely. It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom, will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good. What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing. We know that it doesn’t take everyone on Earth to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale. One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire. To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these – to be fierce and to show mercy toward others; both are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.”
