Taurus New Moon 5/11-The Value of Being

  • by

New Moons represent beginnings. The opportunity to do things differently- hopefully better. Additionally, this New Moon signals the beginning of eclipse season, so stay tuned for that. No doubt the last few weeks have been stirring the mud, dredging up the unseen, perhaps unconscious layers. Perhaps, you too, have uttered the phrase, “This again?”. There is some needed integration with this New Moon from all the lessons earned last year.

Typically, Taurus signifies times of calm, think deep breaths and nature walks. Astrologically speaking, though, this time is not exactly that. There is definitely change afoot. Unexpected happenings. Some dynamic revolutions. Expect flashes of insight and wake-up calls.

Why?

Uranus dances with the Sun and the Moon adding that flair of unexpected insight (a.k.a choice points). The Sun and Moon also square Saturn and Jupiter, offering a dose of robust reality.

And then there’s Lilith.

She also stands with this New Moon, making her presence known.

Now Astrology uses the main planets to map specific cyclical cosmic weather patterns. Yet, via its evolution, which has mirrored our own psycho-spiritual growth, astrology has expanded to include other celestial bodies like asteroids, fixed stars, and the like to offer better dimensions of wisdom, and nuances of definition.

The story of Lilith is a deep a feisty one, relevant to both her meaning in astrology and this time. According to myth, Lilith was the original Eve created like Adam from the Earth itself. She, being equal, would not submit to Adam’s dominance. When she was forced, she rebelled and left the garden. Adam, now lonely, was then given a woman created from his rib, and thereby inherently subservient. The story continues with Lilith scorned and full of rage, traipsing through the countryside seeking revenge by spreading destruction throughout the land, murdering babies, having demonic relations, and basically doing all sorts of evil. Now it must be remembered that the myth itself was crafted at a time when the feminine genius was scorned rather than celebrated. So, I suspect some dramatic and toxic bias at play.

With that consideration though, there is a shadow and a light to each archetype, and in all myth, a lesson.

Lilith, in its highest expression, represents our true divine feminine genius weaving a balanced force of creation. She is the empowered right brain, creative, emotive, freedom-loving, passionate, dynamically angry, revolutionary, unapologetically authentic, powerfully sovereign, most spirited, and always unpredictable parts of us. Her placement in a chart represents where we need to express these traits most profoundly in our lives.

Of course, when channeled through habituated fearful survival reaction, shadow expression often occurs. That Lilith flavor looks violent, indigent, riotous, vengeful, aggressive, blaming, and combative. What can create can also destroy. And she is in us. All of us. We carry both sides of the rebel/advocate archetype, and our intention (reaction or response) decides which essence of that force is channeled.

But what does all that mean in relation to this time?

Well, take a look at where this Moon falls in your chart (21° Taurus) to get a sense of your current prescription for radical accountability, revolution, and rebellion.

In general, though Taurus times ask us to slow down and evaluate our relationship with things like soul esteem, abundance, values, peace, security, harmony, patience, simplicity, and contentment. Beautiful words, of course.

What keeps us from truly LIVING them?

I suspect the answers to that question are readily available right now if we are brave enough to see them. Of course, the answers may also come in the form of truth bombs flushing out any value misalignments. So, be on the lookout for solutions that masquerade as “challenges”. Those will have much to teach us.

Taurus is the earthiest of all signs, and nature is indeed a profound teacher for all those innate Taurus traits. Resources do make us feel safe, which is why Taurus is often associated with money and finances. It is always about the RIGHT use of resources, though. Otherwise, we get shadowy Taurus greed where enough is never actually enough, our security always tenuous and external. No doubt, deeper reflections around the nature of what we really value is paramount as concepts like self worth and grounded abundance rise to meet us.

There is freedom with this New Moon where we can choose to allow a new vision to take the place of old habits. Expect to feel the shaking of foundations, inner and outer. Because when we have danced with the depths of our darkest layers (and if you are doing it right, you have been), we come out the other side wiser, more courageous, more authentic, and more etched with a need to LIVE more fully from the heart in service of the whole. Which is what Taurus is all about. The reminder that a gentle heart is the strongest kind because it remembers it is simply part of the whole—an extension of the grace that flows through all. Our value then becomes not something to strive for, an elusive outer refection, but a grounded sense of self to express. Our worth not measured by accolades or external definitions, but revealed in the raw courage to feel and the humble simplicity to be.

This time is about reconnecting to that.

“Most lives are not distinguished by great achievements. They are measured by an infinite number of small ones. Each time you do a kindness for someone or bring a smile to his face, it gives your life meaning. Never doubt your value, little friend. The world would be a dismal place without you in it.”
