Welcome to eclipse season. We begin the cycle with a Total Super Moon Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius. In other words, an extra potent Full Moon.
What makes eclipses more special?
First off, eclipses represent a significant time of reset. Think of rebooting your computer to fix a snag. During a lunar eclipse, for a brief time, the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. This can only happen during a Full Moon when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned. We’ll discuss the meaning in a bit, but keep your eyes to the heavens if you live in Australia, parts of the western US, western South America, or South-East Asia on May 26th. You can catch this visual phenomenon in all its beauty. (For more on what you can see based on your location, go here.)
Regardless, if you can see it, you will likely be feeling it.
What does the current astrology tell us about the nature of the current energy weather?
Eclipses always dance with the Nodes of the Moon, a.k.a nodes of fate. This is a South Node Eclipse because the North Node is in Gemini, directly opposite. That means we can expect some karmic knocks on our doors in the guise of fated events. Some shadows are coming to light. Some revelation. Some reality checks. Fate, though, doesn’t imply a laissez-faire attitude of inaction or a shame-based sense of punishment. Fate may be the cards we are dealt. It is totally up to us to choose how to play the cards. Take note, though, whatever arises in the next month is vitally important.
Additionally, as noted, eclipses represent reboots and resets. What specifically needs a reset? The Moon in the sign of Sagittarius. Of course, astrology is not a fixed dictate but a sum of symbolic possibilities. The Moon simply represents our ability to feel, empathize, intuit, find security, and nurture. We all have an emotional intelligence with us. We all have a Moon. Sagittarius then offers the specific flavor of that personal force and thus sheds light on the current time. It highlights things like Truth, justice, morality, and beliefs, both inner and outer. Sagittarius, in its highest expression, defends natural laws, the ones rooted in universal moral confines. Principles like love is better than hate. It is better to give than take. It is better to help than demand. It is better to reflect rather than blame. The golden rule applies here too, as it is woven into every moral tradition “‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Perhaps, we can paraphrase it another way fitting to eclipse season. What you put out, you get back. Karma just means we reap what we sow.
This brings us to the current lesson we are living. The South Node nature of this time will disclose any imbalance with this Sagittarian force. I expect some shadowy Sagittarian layers to surface in the form of correction. What are those forces? Things like closed-minded dogma, blame, spiritual bypassing, disinformation, convenient spin, mistaking personal Truth for universal Truth, and fundamentalism leading to the cognitive dissonance of conspiracy.
What is the required correction? Astrologically, we look to North Node in Gemini. It is the guiding light forward, which reminds us of the vital importance of factual data and critical thinking.
Because Truth is not so much what you believe, it is who you become when you believe it.
~Does your ‘truth’ make you more compassionate, kind, loving, authentically honest, and profoundly humble?
~Does your ‘truth’ make you less judgmental, less shaming, and more radically accountable?
~Does your ‘truth’ uplift, inspire, and celebrate those around you?
~Does your ‘truth’ allow, even encourage, interconnection and cooperation?
~Does your ‘truth’ allow, even welcome debate, vision, and the growth that comes with new ideas and insights?
~Does your ‘truth’ exemplify you treating others as you expect to be treated?
That assessment is the correction we are living in both our inner and outer worlds. Somehow Truth has become weary, confusing, polar, and convenient. It has become insensitive, self-serving, defensive, belligerent, and one-sided in dogmatic orthodoxy. The aim is not to double down on what you believe but to seek ideas, beliefs, facts, and assumptions that open your mind beyond what you have deemed comfortable, familiar, or right. Listen a little more. Seek to understand. Fact-check everything.
Because maybe Truth has not left us. We have left it. This time is about earning it back one mindful moment, one act of service, one kind word, one humble reconciliation, and one verifiable fact at a time.
I can think of no better lesson for us right now.
“Sit down before fact with an open mind. Be prepared to give up every preconceived notion. Follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss Nature leads, or you learn nothing. Don’t push out figures when facts are going in the opposite direction.”
― Hyman G. Rickover
