If you have been following the current astrology, you know Aquarius is the pervasive theme and energy pattern we are living of late. Check out the Astrology of 2021 for more on that.
This New Moon, we have six planets (7 if you count Pallas) in the sign of Aquarius- Saturn, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury (now retrograde), the Sun, and the Moon. The last time that happened was 1962. We can get a sense of current choice points by remembering what was alive back then. It was also a time of significant social revolution- a time of considerable change between the old and the new, innovation versus tradition, convention in tension with rebellion.
Because Aquarius is symbolized by the “Water Bearer”, a mystical force that initiates both possibility and potential. It offers renewal, hope, and a vision of what could be. Thus, there is a strong maverick and rebellious nature to Aquarius. Aquarius is the part of us that MUST individuate to be part of the whole. Done well, we have authentic innovation, inspiration, and evolution. Done less well, and we can fall into orthodoxy, unquestioned allegiance, shadow tribalism, and dogmatic conspiracy. Acceptance and belonging are potent potions, after all. Change is often resisted.
Aquarius times do offer significant advancement, achievement, and success. Think of massive leaps in science, technology, and the arts. Or remember times and people who led the charge for causes grounded in equality, honor, and justness. From the enlightenment of the renaissance to the scientific revolution to the Civil Rights Eras, all those times in history were Aquarian in nature.
We are living one of those times now. Highly likely you can feel it.
It feels like hope, inspiration, and excitement conflicting with the rigidity of the status quo. Aquarian times are often polar in nature, sides straining against the promise of the new and the comfort of the old.
This is why Aquarius is most associated with technical truth, which is the medicine of this time. Technical truth is not the same as mystical, emotional, or moral truth though sometimes they overlap. What is technical truth? It is grounded in reason, logic, and critical thinking skills. Often technical truth is not convenient or what we “want to see”. It typically rouses us from the dormancy of any subterfuge of habit. Think of the early astronomers that rocked the collective world with the news the Sun, not the Earth, was indeed the center of the universe. Heavy stuff to a society of people that had literally created their identity as the center of it all. So heavy, in fact, those early truth sayers were imprisoned or worse. Of course, they were right.
There is a lot of that spinning through the ether right now- the electricity and momentum of progress and subsequent resistance. Certainly, we see this playing out in our collective world with the rise of conspiracy, polarity, and disinformation conflicting with evidence and rational analysis.
Astrology is all about mapping the macro and the micro, though. Look deeper into your personal world too. Where this New Moon is occurring in your chart (23° Aquarius) is a facet of your life that promises some revolution. No doubt your life is throwing some technical truths your way. Your job is to pay attention to them, even (especially) if they challenge your current status quo. Aquarian change can’t happen in the familiar. It will require you to do things radically different than you have previously done them. This is a potent time to plant the seeds of your potential and then be brave enough to be it.
So, get technical in your life. Fact-check what is and isn’t working? What in your life is desiring (demanding!) change, new vision, or innovation? These will not be ego goals, of course, but soul ones. Meaning, these goals will not be goals that attempt to take you to enough but ones that express your enoughness. They will ask you to step outside the box, stand up to the “shoulds’, and challenge the familiar.
Because conspiracies don’t just happen on the outside. Our habitual mind is full of unchecked and outdated spells of collusion. We can’t harness our unique music if we are still playing an antiquated tune from long ago.
Because that is the point with Aquarius.
Aquarius holds the magic of understanding the balance between the authentic nature of our personal selves and the collective. The big picture and the many technical steps it will take to get there. And we need the visionaries right now, the ones who can see beyond the rules of form into the radical nature of the not yet defined. In some way, your life is calling you to seek what is beyond those same horizons and up-level in a major way. It is your job to take the first step.
“A visionary is not some dude who creates the latest gadget or a start-up. A Visionary is someone who actually has vision. A Creative Visionary envisions and only gives feeling energy to that which they intend. This focused energy moves them into conscious action. A Creative Visionary is not an idealist with their head in the sand. They see the reality of pain, suffering, and confusion in the world and are moved by ceaseless compassion for their fellow man to imagine and act in order to create a better world. They cross the abyss and return transformed. Their compassion harmonises with wisdom and a disciplined mind. Embodiment is a Creative Visionary’s highest aim. A vision only comes to fruition through the people who have the will to embody it.”
