Sagittarius New Moon 11/23/22-The Winds of Hope

  • by

The first 5 degrees of Sagittarius are defined by one word-Hope.

A needed force to inhale right now.

There is some of that being birthed. Some tendrils of optimism etched with grace. Some assurance. Some confidence and conviction. Some promise of a new day. Soak it in.

The eclipses were intense in all the ways they were meant to be. The revelations obvious. The resets glaring. The reckoning indisputable. We will feel the ramifications of the ellipses for the next six months or so.

And while we have and are living through dense lessons, there is evidence solutions are possible. The following five New Moons all occur at 1° of their respective signs, echoing themes of beginnings and new chapters. So, use this time wisely to contemplate the next right steps forward, leaving what is no longer working. Because beginnings always dance with endings. There is often an exquisite grief that occurs amongst the promise of newness. Let’s make space for it all.

Hope itself isn’t the assurance that everything will work out how we want it to or even in a time frame we want, just that the ending is unwritten. That there are new possibilities and solutions to explore. Hope reminds us that some of our very best days haven’t yet happened. We are still going to meet interesting people. We can make amends. We can choose a new path no matter how wedded we are to the old one. Hope is the ability to lean into the potential of uncertainty and thereby open the door to the truly miraculous.

Both Venus and Mercury join this New Moon offering a balance of new information and support. Jupiter trines it, giving another dose of optimism amongst any balancing of the scales occurring in the form of consequences. So, pay attention to any consequences that arise
in your inner and outer world. They hold essential wisdom regarding what needs leaving and what needs claiming. Because hope is found in the intuitive graces surrounding us, the right person reaching out at the right time, and nudges of stillness and beauty. It is also found in any reality checks and slaps of awareness that demand attention. Clear intuition doesn’t tell us what we want to hear. It tells us what we need to hear. This is why empowered intuition is grounded in humble reckoning and radical accountability.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon echoes this theme: “White-capped waves display the power of the sea.”

Hope is remembering we are both grit and grace, form and flow. Wind may whip the waves at the ocean’s surface that the depths barely feel. This image reminds us we cannot stop the inevitability of change, but we can learn to surf the currents. It reminds us to stay humble about what we can and cannot control. The wind and ocean are not enemies, after all. They have learned to cooperate rather than compete. Perhaps, there is a hopeful truth in that lesson too.

This New Moon reminds us to keep that flame of hope alive. Because hope is a verb. It is a muscle that requires flexing. It means we need to show up again and again, holding steady to meaning. There are right actions to take. We can find solutions. Hope reminds us to keep some space in our hearts open to what is possible.

Because hope is how the impossible can become possible.

“TO BE HOPEFUL in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness.

What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction.

And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”
