Leo New Moon 7/28/22-Love is a verb

  • by

New Moons represent new beginnings. And there is undoubtedly that flavor afoot. The air is heavy and ripe with potential, igniting the space between what is and what will be. Thus, New Moons are also great times to set new intentions and claim a new sense of awareness. The Moon’s sign and overall aspect pattern can help us better define just what those intentions are meant to be.

Leo, out of all signs, is most connected to the heart. A fire sign, it requires the heart-based kindling of integrity, honor, honesty, and humility. Ask the heart what it needs to shine authentically, and it will always respond through a force of altruism rather than self-centeredness. This is why Leo is most associated with joy. Contributing is the birthplace of that dynamic force.

The Sun itself is the planet most associated with Leo. Think of what the Sun does. It holds the gravity of the solar system. It is the essence of who we are. Without a humble connection to the heart, though, it gets grandiose, believing its own specialness trying to overcompensate for any ingrained dimness. A Sun run amok is dangerous indeed.

This New Moon in Leo reminds us of our light and how we are meant to shine. Which is the medicine of the time. Because our light is not really meant for us. It was never intended to be selfish but shared. Our brilliance inspires the brilliance of others. Our light lighting the way.

How heart-centered are we? Personally, culturally, and collectively?

Those are the questions we must ask and set our intentions accordingly.

Because decisions, actions, and values based in the heart are often vastly different than those filtered through other parts of our psyche. This doesn’t imply our intellect should be ignored, or the heart is always right. We humans can certainly interpret any message through murky or clear filters, and this does alter the outcome. Therefore, awareness and accountability are paramount to any intuitive type of work. Being able to decipher between intelligences is key. To that end, questions regarding passion, purpose, love, or even forces like sovereignty, freedom, and leadership are best answered from our most clear heart-based selves.

Adding to this theme, the Sun and Moon in Leo are joined by both Ceres and Mercury. Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, represents where and how we nurture love in our lives. Ceres times can literally bring our attention to food and supply chain issues. It can also ask us to recognize our relationship with nurturing in our own lives- with the Earth, others, and ourselves. Ceres reminds us just because we can doesn’t mean we should. When care is brought to any decision, it is expanded to include things like empathy, integrity, and justice. And right now, care is needed. Where this New Moon shines in your chart reveals the nature of care you are being asked to harness.

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon is the meeting of an “Old fashioned woman and up-to-date girl”. An interesting and apropos metaphor. Indeed, we get the reiterating theme that change is afoot. The tension between the old and the new, tradition and innovation is palpable. We also have a reiteration of specific feminine equality issues arising. It must be noted that the past can be helpful to ponder, but it isn’t the solution to change. By definition, change means we must go into new territory, not back to the familiar.

Jupiter goes retrograde the same day as the New Moon asking us to look deeply at where our beliefs need updating because often, our beliefs are the things that keep us stuck. When the old collides with the new, these limiting beliefs emerge, ‘This is the way we’ve always done it,’ ‘It makes me uncomfortable,’ ‘It is just my opinion.’ It is easy to understand the habitual comfort in those statements, but none will take us to change.

Wisdom is not found in the stasis of what has been but in what could be. This is why Leo is most associated with hope, creativity, and inspiration. Because it lives in what is possible.

It takes courage to embrace change. It takes courage to care. Courage to navigate the waters of uncertainty. Leo awakens the hero’s spirit in all of us. The one found only in our heart. So as we set our intentions, define our values, and navigate the action steps to walk through this time of uncertainty, let us summon our hearts to lead us forward. Because that is where the answers are.

“Love is at the center of humanity. It’s what makes us human and what makes us beautiful. It’s what makes us strong, resilient, and compels us to do the right thing. Love is a way of life — it is more than just a feeling. Love is an action, an art, and the deep desire to see others grow to their greatest capacity. To see ourselves grow to our greatest capacity. Love is what makes us truly us, and what makes this country great. It is what makes us patriotic in our mission for life, love, and the pursuit of happiness. We need to rise above our desire to compete, so we can step up for our souls’ need to serve.” ~ Drue Grit
