Aries New Moon Solar Eclipse 4/8/24-What got you here won’t get you there.

  • by

How many of us track the weather forecast to best prepare for the days and even weeks ahead? We may wait to water our garden, knowing rain is coming. Perhaps we postpone our trip to the tropics if a hurricane is expected. Maybe we pack an extra jacket if the temperature drops. Our cosmic weather is no different. Astrology is a tool to map the energetic currents to help us better understand and navigate what is arising.

So what’s the current astro weather forecast?

It’s complex, with a side of uncertainty sprinkled with unexpected change. The barometric pressure is heavy and dense, and the air is ripe with potential, opportunity, and challenge.

With so much astro data to sort though, I will first list the current happenings. So, if astrologese is confusing feel free to skip to the “what does that all mean” section below. For those interested in the specifics, here you go.

  1. This is a New Moon Solar Eclipse with a narrow path of totality crossing through parts of Mexico, the US and Canada.  To learn more about the eclipse locations, go to NASA.com
  2. This New Moon is conjunct Chiron bringing in some opportunities to heal in a transformative way.
  3. Mercury is retrograde in the sign of Aries, summoning all the pauses, forced and chosen.
  4. This is a Super New Moon meaning the Moon is especially close to the Earth pulling on the tides both inner and outer.
  5. The Devil Comet will be visible during the eclipse. Despite the ominous name, the comet was labeled after its irregular horseshoe shape looking a bit like horns. Astrologically speaking, comets are messengers of change, often bringing significant choice points and power pivots.

What does it all mean?

First, for you sensitive types, hold steady. The air is thick with energy pollen. Soul screen will likely be needed. There is a lot of learning out there in the form of consequences and truth bombs. The curriculum is intense.

Why?

Because eclipses deal with the real, a.k.a the nodes of fate, symbolizing larger patterns we are living. Eclipse forecasts last about 6 months. So, whatever is being planted now will be expected to grow and need to be tended to in the months ahead. We have been dancing with this nodal axis since July of 2023, so the energy is not new. It is just more intense when empathized during eclipses. Think of it like the very last weeks of the class before the final exam. There is a lot of information in the form of life lessons and power pivots to cram in.

The good news is we have tremendous capacity for change. The challenge is we will have to change something. Because Eclipses are reboots to the system. Restarts. It gives us the opportunity to see something clearer and thus (hopefully) do something better. We can always choose to course correct.

Of course, we also don’t have to choose change. We can fight the current. The problem there is that change will not go away. It will just choose us instead.  Choose to change or it chooses for you. So, key point to this time- if something in your life needs to change, if something needs to end/begin, pay attention, and let it end. Maybe even close the door yourself. Because the new can’t emerge until the old is over. What got you here won’t get you there. (To get a sense of the specific flavor of change you are rocking, look to the house where this eclipse resides).

Some important themes to remember collectively and personally as we contemplate this time of potential:

  • You will need to pick a side. Aries type change doesn’t happen when we straddle the messy middle. We must determine the point of delineation between old and new, right and wrong, and our parts and our self-led inner authority (see below). There are times when neutrality is required. This isn’t one of them. You will need to pick the right direction.
  • Embrace conflict. Change summons that chaotic space between the stasis of potential and the kinetic expression of the new. Whether it is a seed pushing through soil to catch the sun, the caterpillar growing wings in the cocoon, that hard conversation in your relationship, or the clashing of our inner committee, conflict is necessary for growth. The trick is to do it well, using it as a force of creation rather than annihilation or wounding.
  • Find your grounded authority. The words “I am” are potent forces of creation. The first sign of the zodiac, Aries is where we are meant to grasp the inner sovereign uniqueness of being. Requiring radical self-awareness, humility, and integrity. Knowing the truth of who you are, shadow and light, honors the whole of our being.

Which leads us to…

  • The right use of anger. Anger fires us up to stand in our grounded rightness. The high destiny of anger lives in the sovereignty of our most healed spaces, not our wounds. It allows us to set sturdy and healthy boundaries and assert ourselves. Anger is the clarity of passion and purpose. It ignites our will to take inspired action.
  • Summon courage. We cannot change in the familiar. And that fact brings in all shades of fear. It makes sense of course. Vital for survival and a healthy life, fear is the innate power tasked with the sole purpose of, “keeping the organism (us) alive”. But fear, while very real, is not always accurate in what it decides is dangerous. Just because something is unfamiliar doesn’t mean it is unsafe. Aries reminds us of our courage to navigate the uncertainty of change. That flame of grace that helps us risk the newness.

Of course, every one of these forces can be channeled through the best of us or not. Just like any tool, each can be used as a force of creation or destruction. We are experiencing both. This will likely continue as we navigate the months ahead. It is up to us to choose wisely. To be sure, we will have plenty of opportunities to practice.

Because collectively and personally, we are on a hero’s journey of discovery. Progress is the promise. Thus, expect to be tasked with facing the fire of our own inner dragons.

Aries lives in the flames of that discovery. The journey. The quest. The adventure. The change. It is that birthplace of innovation and the very magic needed to make it through. Because real authenticity is about shedding who we thought we were to reveal who we have always been.

That is the treasure we seek.

“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back.”
