Aquarius Full Moon 8/15—Keeper of the flame

The last New Moon lit the tinder, and this Full Moon in Aquarius we are asked to fan the flame. This isn’t always easy when we feel heavy with despair, our hearts hurting.

It was tough to write this Full Moon post. Challenging because we are in a time of profound transformation. At times like this, polarity is evident, and sides are divided by fear. As someone sensitive to the energetic currents of hate, this is a weary time.

I know some of the most significant growth comes out of the darkest times. I know we will get through this, hopefully stronger. I know things are not falling apart. They are being uncovered. I know the only way out is through. I know the intensity of shadow work, and the I know the wisdom it offers. I know knowing this is a daily practice of remembering it at times like this.

This is a time of true revelation.  Not subjective or convenient truths either. Universal ones. The ones that are simply right because they are right. The ones we teach our children. The ones grounded in respect, integrity, decency, and honesty. The ones that do not have a price. Their value is their worth. Aquarius deals with that kind of truth. Uranus which rules Aquarius has begun its retrograde journey echoing these themes.

Often these truths ask the most of us. They ask the most of us because they require us to suspend what we might “want” and replace it with what is. This is the kind of truth that pierces the veil of denial, no matter how strong it is. The revelation repeats, often at an increasingly elevated volume, until we are shocked out of our perpetuating dormancy. From a soul perspective, it looks a lot like revelation. From a human ego perspective, it feels more like a tidal wave of overwhelm.

Aquarian truth is meant to get our attention. To inspire us to action. The truth-sayer is the rebel. The revolutionary that thinks outside the box and pushes the limits of what has been deemed possible. That part of us is activated too. The visionary within us knows we cannot change a current problem with the same mind that created it. That mind is what brought us here. We have already witnessed the revolutionary power of collective change in places like Puerto Rico and the protests on Mauna Kea in Hawaii. You can expect revolutions in both our outer and inner worlds in the coming months.

And by definition, revolutions often require some messiness. Change doesn’t happen in our comfort zones.

Some of the most common questions I receive are about the LOA (law of attraction) manifesting, positive affirmations, and other mainstream metaphysical principles. This happens mostly because people have diligently tried all the practices touted and are still in the same spot. Obviously, this is a vast topic with many layers and a unique and personal process for each individual. Teaching it in the “one size fits all model” does a disservice to our individuation. At the very least, it causes frustration as it doesn’t work in the way we expect. At worst it reinforces the shame of “what’s wrong with me” and disillusionment in a beautiful system.

“Why is it ‘working” for everyone else but me?”
Spoiler alert. It isn’t.

This isn’t about simply wanting things to be different. Despite how badly we want the easy fix or the magical way out that kind of mystical thinking doesn’t equate with change. Moreover, that type of work so touted in metaphysical thought actually blocks the magic we seek as well as upping the shame story when it doesn’t “work”. We cannot bypass, affirm, vision board, or positively think our way out of dark spaces. No amount of “positive” spin can override a deeply ingrained archetypal pattern- especially if that pattern saved your life at an earlier time. Instead, understanding, authenticity, and shadow work is needed to lovingly shift the contract with that part of yourself. This means we will be required to face hard truths and do hard things. The universe only responds to authenticity. What IS. Not what we want. It responds to soul esteem (we are already enough) not the insecurity of our scared, shamed, lacking, and wounded parts, which typically run the manifesting show. To realize lasting change, we can’t front, manipulate, or bypass what is happening outside or inside of us.

This doesn’t mean we are powerless though or that laws of resonance are incorrect. Far from it! It just means we need to shift our vision to see through soul eyes and not the duality of our ego perception. In fact, it is much simpler than we make it out to be. After all, floating downstream is much easier than fighting the current. We can upgrade any contract or archetype in unbelievably miraculous ways.

It just means the only way out is through.

It means we must understand when we set a goal or vision for change, we are literally summoning a dark night of the ego.

It means we will need to face a significant definition of the foundational self and then let it go, thereby drifting into uncertainty.

It means we need to understand and have reverence for the patterns that kept us safe but are now simply not required.

It means we need to regain our power from a time it was lost.

It means we need to look deeply at our lives right now as the gifts of purpose they are befriending not shaming the upsets.

It means we need to embrace and understand our unique destiny and not borrow one not meant for us, no matter how shiny it appears.

It means less control and more surrender.

It means more listening and less demanding.

It means more curiosity and less dogma.

It means getting really real.
That is where the magic is.
Has life gotten your attention yet?

Aquarius is the inner revolutionary that chooses action over stagnation and authenticy over conformity. It asks us to have the courage to stand steadfastly in a higher truth, ultimately becoming the beacon of it.

If you are fired up,
If you feel like you are on some precipice of change,
If you feel like breaking the chains of a corrupt system,
If you are simply OVER it…
Good.

That is the oxygen to your flame. Those are the truth bombs igniting the force of change.

And here we are. Awakening.  Knee deep in some substantial truth. Sometimes having to work to keep the blaze alive.

Which brings us to Vesta.

This Full Moon dances with the asteroid body Vesta. Myth tells of Vetsal Virgins that were tasked the sole responsibility of keeping the fire in the central temple. Without fire, Rome, and the civilization that depended on it, would perish.

Inner and outer, our flame keeps us alive. It is our vision. Our life force. Our very breath. Our safety. Our security. Our flame is our inspiration. It is our desire. It is our need to move and take action. It is our joy and our rage- both fiery emotions that evoke purpose and passion. It is an extension of truth itself.

Our fire is our laser focus on what is MOST important in our lives. Without it, we are nothing.

Vesta, goddess of the hearth, reminds us how we are more connected than different.

She is keeper of the flame.

As long as we have breath, we have life.
As long as we have vision, we have hope.
As long as we have passion, we have right action.
As long as we have love, we have truth.
As long as we have light, we can overcome any darkness.
Even the darkest of nights cannot withstand the radiance of fire.
Our job is to keep the flame alive. Even during squalls, and snow and when we are tired our breath lacking. We must keep the flame of hope alive. Like lighthouses we show each other the way home.
You are here for a reason Light is light. The lamp is authenticity.
Let your heart lead. It knows the way.
