Eclipses represent a need for a reset. Think of rebooting your computer to fix a snag. During a lunar eclipse, for a brief time, the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. This can only happen during a Full Moon when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned.
Eclipses always dance with the Nodes of the Moon, a.k.a nodes of fate. For the last 16 months or so, we have been living the Sagittarius (South Node) Gemini (North Node) recalibration pattern. Certainly, shadowy Sagittarius elements like convenient truths, vicious polarity, dogmatic belief systems, and traditions have been revealed. The correction required has been Gemini North Node medicine to help us expand our thinking and perception. Gemini is an endlessly curious and open mind. It is good science, facts, complex data, and critical thinking. Now, this particular eclipse is a bit different. While the nodes are officially still in Gemini and Sagittarius and those themes very activated, this Moon briefly dips our toes in Taurus terrain, foreshadowing 2022. The nodes officially switch to Taurus (North Node) and Scorpio (South Node) on January 18, 2022. Remember, the South Node denotes areas to improve with the North Node the specific medicine. As we enter 2022, we can predict shadow Scorpio themes to prevail, and the needed remedy will be Taurus.
This Full Moon eclipse, we get a reset of Taurus themes- which is good news because, in the upcoming year, we are really going to need it.
Taurus, a grounding force, is the sign most connected to the Earth. This is why the wisdom of Taurus is not found in complexity (that’s Scorpio terrain) but simplicity. The rightness of Taurus truth is not measured by mere technicality but also morality. Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. It’s the kind of knowing forged in the divine balance of seasons, sunrises, sunsets, fierce storms, mountain vistas, and white sands. It is found in accountability. Honesty. Tenacity. Perseverance. Authenticity. It is found in walking the talk.
Sometimes we don’t need more words, actions, or complications. We don’t need more things or stuff to define our worth. We don’t need more outside validation to prove we are enough. We don’t need to be busier. We don’t need to rest our gaze on the horizon but firmly at our own feet. We need to pause. To breathe. To honor what is. Taurus truths are revealed in silence because only when complexity is stilled can we perceive what is real.
“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
And we will have plenty of opportunities to practice that in the year ahead. We can expect the volume to increase on some intense shadow Scorpio material with the South Node moving there. Taurus medicine will be required. Some presence. Some patience. Some powerful humility. Some remedy to materialism or greed. Next time you find yourself high on your own power (shadow Scorpio terrain), try stopping the tides, or a hurricane, or the sun from rising.
Humility is not meant to shame or punish us. That is a human invention. It is not meant to deny our ‘specialness’ but to connect us to an authentic form of it. Humility at the core is the ability to unite the real with the inspired, the sacred with service, and discipline with a dedication of compassion. Humility also offers the gift of an ever-present hope. Because when we remember the same force that guides the stars is the same one that flows through each of us, we crack the door to grace.
After all, the sun rises even after the darkest night. Jupiter in Aquarius (square) is part of this Full Moon too.
Hope isn’t always easy, though. It is a muscle. Something that must be worked at. Claimed. Honed. Sharpened. Hope is also not the belief that everything is “meant to be” or “happening for a reason”. Those spiritual platitudes may be essentially valid but are often used to spiritually bypass the real we need to see. Life can get pretty hard sometimes. Hope is not the assurance “it’s all good” but the promise that the ending is simply yet unwritten. That there is more information needed. More options. More insights. More data. More chances of redemption. More opportunities to practice goodness, service, gratitude, and sacrifice. More moments that shatter our hearts so we can feel a renewed sense of purpose. More choice points of truth to smack us awake. It is not about simply denying what is uncomfortable but better understanding it.
Grace does not do hypotheticals, after all. It is only found in the everyday moments that ask us to show up. Again. And again. And again.
I have hope because every day is another day to be better than we are.
That is Taurus.
So, at this Full Moon Eclipse, pause. Get present. Look at your life through the eyes of practical magic, locating what is truly important and of value- and what isn’t. Get outside. Touch the Earth. Ground your feet into something solid. Watch a sunset or sunrise. Find a sense of awe and, in turn, embrace some grounded compassion and humility. After all, nature reminds us patience is acceptance etched with hope. Trust that there is more than you think you know at work, and you are simply a vital part of the whole.
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
― Albert Einstein
