We are navigating a profound time in history. One historians will analyze and write about in future textbooks. And the story is not yet over. We are still in the midst of the shift itself. The ending is yet unwritten. We are living history.
Full Moons are a time of revelation and illumination, calling to task all that we have been learning of late. This is a Super Full Moon in Scorpio, pulling a bit more on those inner and outer tides, adding a bit more juice and intensity.
No doubt, this has been a time of unveiling. What we really value. What is most important. What structures of society require serious updating. (Look at the last Taurus New Moon and the current Venus, Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter retros for more on that).
Scorpio is the most deeply penetrating and perceptive of all signs. Well versed in the shadow, it can detect any thread of dishonesty and betrayal. This superpower is also its liability in some ways. Those with strong Scorpio or 8th house placements (raising hand), are often told they are too intense, too deep, too honest, too… much. Like all water signs, Scorpios carry the gift of intuition. Just not the type that is invited to entertain at parties. They do not wade in the shallow waters of light and love, expressing all those things we want to hear. They see the potential, the blocks, the pain, and hurt we all bury deep inside. They are the guides to and through the underworld. Thus, these are some of the greatest healers for that very reason. They understand real transformation can only happen when we see the totality of who we are. That death is the rebirth of something new. That the most brilliant treasure is often found in the most unloved or yet undiscovered parts.
“You don’t find light by avoiding the darkness.”
― S. Kelley Harrell
This Full Moon asks the same of us. To be real. To be brutally honest. To go deep into all those shadowy places and find the marrow of the latest learning. It asks us to take this time of deep reflection and trace the tendrils of any insecurity down to the very roots. It asks us to look where most resist looking. To honor what we are most trying to avoid.
What are the lessons asking of you?
What shadows are arising in you?
What have you learned thus far?
What truths, no matter how inconvenient, have been revealed?
And there has been so much, and even more yet to come. The revealing is in progress. Scorpio rules secrets and mysteries- what is yet unsolved within us. In truth, we cannot ever heal what we don’t acknowledge. We can’t live authentically if we deny the whole of who we are. The revelation and the conquering of any shadow layer only happens when we honor it at the door, invite it in, and look it squarely in the eyes.
Perhaps, you, like me, find yourself a bit spent, weary, and soul tired. Let the strength of the Full Moon wash over you. Bathe in its light. Because another gift of Scorpio is the ability to rise like a phoenix from the ashes stronger, wiser, and more even resilient. There is no sign with more emotional strength, perseverance, and grit. But we often do not choose Scorpio learning. We are instead initiated. Pulled into the depths. Offered a shadow layer to reclaim lost parts of the self. The magician, the shaman, the transformer, Scorpio is about power. It’s healing is the ability to recover fractioned pieces into integration. With power, though, comes great responsibility and the requirement to use it wisely.
My advice this Full Moon…
Celebrate all that you have learned and summon whatever threads are left unwoven. Lean into all the places you feel resistance or fear. Because this Moon echoes the current Plutonian phase, we are living. We either evolve, surrender, and transform by choice, or the choice is made for us. The learning and required changes are going to occur, no matter how badly we may want to resist it. There will be no going back. Once we get to the underworld, the only way out is through.
The Nodes switch two days before this Full Moon from the Capricorn (south node)/ Cancer (north node) to Sagittarius (south node)/Gemini (north node). The last time we had this configuration was just after 9/11. Another time the world changed forever, and we needed the Gemini remedy to help us find new paths forward. (For more on that, go here). There is so much hope, so much lightness, so much potential personally and collectively. It is a time of revelation and breakthroughs. We can only harness this potential, however, if we get real about the totality of what needs transforming.
We can thank Scorpio for revealing exactly what that is.
“The bright side of the Moon could not exist without the half wrapped in shadow. A half-life is not substantial, not sustainable. You cannot cut out half your heart and live.”
― Thomas Lloyd Qualls
This Full Moon is 17 ° Scorpio.
