We are living in complex times. The pace of life is fast. Information travels at the speed of light. We are connected in ways that we have never been in history. And while humans are wired for community, our brains are not set up for the vast onslaught of data that bombards us on a daily, hourly, and minute by minute basis. As often happens, technology sparks innovation, and society is called to integrate the newness. Change is like that. Sometimes, it happens slowly over time, offering some time to adjust our sails. Sometimes, a sudden, fierce, intense gale pushes us on a new course. We are living in the latter. Where change is happening fast and furious, and we are working hard to navigate the winds. Exhausting and Exciting.
The truth is when change happens, as much as parts of us want to, we cannot go back. We cannot put the internet, social media, artificial intelligence, social progress, scientific discoveries, etc. back in their boxes. And we shouldn’t. Life is about change. We cannot fight innovation. We are called to work with it. We are called to dive deeper into it, understanding the gifts and challenges and navigating this complicated uncertainty to collectively find the optimum way through. Thus, complex times are not about avoiding what is, with cognitive dissonance, motivated reasoning, or other forms of denial. It is about traveling deeper into it.
Enter Scorpio.
Scorpio journeys take us into the heart of those unknown, often complicated, shadowy places. In other words, places we don’t want to go. It does this by revealing what is hidden and uncovering concealed truths. The gift of Scorpio terrain is growth, change, transformation, and the wisdom earned there. The grit is dealing with the really real.
Three days before this Full Moon, Jupiter joins with Uranus in the sign of Taurus. This powerful conjunction happens every 14 years. These two last danced together between mid-May 2011 to early 2012 in Aries/Pisces. The last time Uranus and Jupiter met in Taurus was 1941. That time was certainly fraught with conflict and expanded growth. Often, you can’t have one without the other. When the planet of revolutionary, radical, authentic realness (Uranus) meets with expanded hopeful optimism (Jupiter), there will surely be sparks of electricity. Together, there is a sense of inspired efficiency and required innovation. (Find 21° Taurus in your chart to get a sense of your specific areas of shift). Uranus and Jupiter ask questions like, What could be better? Where are we being asked (forced) to grow? What beliefs need updating? Where are our values misaligned with our actions? Because together in their highest destiny, these planets strive for a better future.
But Uranus and Jupiter, like all forces, have a shadow side, namely selfish idealism, toxic polarity, dangerous dogma, and riotous rebellion. History has taught us that too. It is up to us to let our best parts lead the charge. Evolve or repeat is always the choice.
The Sabian symbol for this conjunction is “A white dove flying over troubled waters” reminding us hope is a verb and faith is a muscle. There is a spiritual promise of betterment, but also the work required to get there. It reminds us to step back. To gain some perspective. To fly above the fray to see what is and what is possible. To let our better angels lead the charge with real even technical, Truth.
Which takes us back to this Full Moon where healing in the real is the medicine.
With Pluto forming a T-square with the Sun and Moon, some transformative shadow walking is required. The alchemy of shadow work is integration, wholeness, and realization of actual truth. The challenge is we must walk through our inner darkness and befriend some long-lost dragons.
As the Taurus Sun shines on the Scorpio Moon, it reminds us that the only way through the complexity of Scorpio shadow terrain is one courageous step at a time. It reminds us to gather the tools of slowing down, awareness, radical accountability, and discernment as we usher in some grounded, maybe inconvenient truth. We can only enter the realness when we do not avoid the storm but become the eye within it. In fact, the Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is “A massive rocky shoreline,” denoting the steadfast sturdiness required right now. The waves may come, but the rocks stand tall and solid, the constant in the chaos.
So take some needed breaths. Get outside. Get still. Get Real. What needs to change in your life? Where are you being asked to grow? What technical truth is being uncovered? It is time to show up. Honor the transformation. Become the phoenix that arises from the burning ashes. Because Scorpio reminds us that we are magicians and co-creators. We are not at all powerless. There is a promise of potential, progress, and hope for a better future. But we must first have the courage to be really real.
“The story doesn’t change when we pretend it was all an illusion. The story doesn’t change when we get addicted to transcendence and float above it. The story doesn’t change when we feign forgiveness and resolution. The story doesn’t change when we confuse dissociation with expansion. The story doesn’t change when we tell ourselves that there are no victims. The story changes when we own our pain. The story changes when we are truly seen in our suffering. The story changes when we work it through the lessons at its core. The story changes when we heal our heart. We are made of story- there is no shame in that. The illusion is illusion, itself. Either we work through our story, or it will work through us.”
