Jupiter spends about a year in each sign. So, watching the movement of this planet can help shape yearly forecasts, both collective and personal. On May 26th, Jupiter moved into Gemini for the next twelve months. Think about what was happening in your life twelve years ago, and you may be navigating similar themes.
With five planets in Gemini, though, Gemini energy is undoubtedly a current focus.
Gemini rules the mind, namely how we give and receive information. Words, facts, data, information. Gemini is how we speak and, maybe more importantly, how we listen. Because information channeled through clear perceptions looks different from information channeled through muddled ones. The shadow of Gemini can be the actual pace of information. Too much data coming too quickly, and our minds cannot perceive it all. Social media comes to mind here. Maybe we are not meant to have THAT much data available at our fingertips. Too many choices. Too many problems to feel responsible for. This bombardment can become all-consuming, even distracting us from our “real” life. Another shadowy Gemini trait is misinformation (unintentional mistruth) and disinformation (intentional mistruth). Combine speed and disinformation, and you have a dangerous combination.
Gemini times call us to become very good at discerning information. Fact-checking. Critical thinking. Rethinking. (See the last blog for more about that). Observing. Curiosity. Understanding. Science. Logic. Reason. These are all Gemini forces.
Because Gemini done well means we are open to expanding and learning. Gemini done less well, and we fight about why we are right.
Which is why the cure for polarization, dogma or closed systems of thinking is Gemini and the magical heresy it provides.
Heretics make fundamentalists uncomfortable because they challenge the status quo. They continually ask questions, questioning the rigidity of tradition and cracking the walls of belief to let some needed light in.
Because without light, nothing can grow.
Which is the work of Gemini. To continually allow curiosity to fuel discovery, never settling too deeply into stasis. It is the ability to observe many perspectives and allow those perspectives to expand horizons with new information.
This radical intellectual maturity demands essential accountability, impeccable integrity, and humble honesty. It requires a rigorous journey into the unknown.
There is no doubt we need more of it.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon echoes this theme, “The head of a robust youth changes into that of a mature thinker” (Rudhyar). What begins as the emotional quest for truth must be chiseled into form with the maturity of reason. Wisdom is not the automatic adoption of ideals, values, or beliefs but the ability to constantly question and live through informed experience. Because the truth never minds being questioned, only lies do.
So, in this time of incredible revelation and reckoning, let us all commit to intellectual maturity. Let us fact-check, think critically, and listen a little more. Let us wisely discuss, debate, and review information. Let us challenge the truth-tellers inner among us to assess their validity and quality of information. Whether they be scientists, presidents, media outlets, or spiritual teachers, let us review their intentions, integrity, and humble wisdom to realize if they deserve the title of information giver. Let us also become heretics of our own stories, inner and outer, and become the light-bringers of our own inspiration and innovation.
