Eclipses are resets and reboots to the system. Think of the magic of fixing a computer glitch by simply restarting it.
That’s an eclipse.
What is being eclipsed is important. A Solar eclipse happens at a New Moon when the Moon stands in between the Earth and the Sun, briefly blocking its light. Though it won’t be visible to us in the US, the energy is obviously still potent.

Eclipses always involve the nodes of the Moon, which are the karmic compass points guiding us forward. This adds to their importance. This New Moon Solar Eclipse and the proceeding Full Moon Lunar eclipse January 10th, help set the stage for the energy all year long.
In other words, the soul work dictated now will continue throughout the next year. This is your current curriculum in this Earth school.
And we are neck-deep in Capricorn terrain. In fact, we start the year with seven cosmic bodies in Capricorn. (For more check out the astrology of 2020).
One thing is for sure. Capricorn keeps it real. It represents structures, politics, laws, integrity, and realistic life demands. Capricorn is the taskmaster, truth-teller, goal setter, grit maker, and disciplinarian of the zodiac. Capricorn decisions and actions are not the kinds that make you necessarily “feel better” instantly. They are not “easy” as they require some sacred discipline, patience, discernment, boundaries, and routine. But they also offer significant payoff and reward.
We are being called to go deep and get really real. Though, you likely don’t need an astrologer to point that out.
Take a look at our current political, societal, economic, and governmental overhaul. Foundations are being rocked for sure. Truth, as uncomfortable as it can be, is wedging through the cracks.
Yet, with the light, we also must deal with the shadow.
There is no sign more stubborn, more cognitively dissonant, more cold, more ego-centered, or more rationally irrational than Capricorn. The classic interrogator archetype, shadow Capricorn can spin some serious BS and make it seem like fact.
That is the correction being offered with this eclipse.
Because the spin isn’t just out there, it is within us. We all have parts of our lives we deny, ignore, or want to simply explain away.
Yet on some level, we KNOW we are engaging in convenient truths and not technical ones.
Capricorn, at its finest, is the technical truth-teller. And it also isn’t subtle, often teaching through brick walls of reality.
The good news is tremendous healing, transformation, and conscious co-creation is possible, but we might have to sweat a little to make it happen.
You can certainly take a look at where this energy is showing up in your chart to get a sense of what truths are emerging. You can expect a reset opportunity where this New Moon shows up in your chart (4° Capricorn). House placement and aspects are extra vital to finding just what personal reality checks you are being asked to cash, and the soul work you are being asked to do. The intent of understanding how and where the energy is showing up for you is for you to do the work consciously, so it doesn’t unconsciously work on you.
With Capricorn, though, you likely need to just look at your life. It’s the stuff you are trying to ignore or would rather deal with later. Capricorn is trying to help, after all, by offering the shortest and most efficient way to purpose. Let us not bypass what is showing up by conveniently trying to affirm another path.
Instead, welcome it. Ask what needs to be on change. Then take the first step to make that change happen.
