Cancer New Moon 7/5/24-Emotional Tides

  • by

Capricorn times are full of navigating the real. That means the air is dense with truth bombs, consequences, and life events we can’t unsee. That’s Capricorn genius, actually- cutting through any subterfuge to reveal what is. So, pay extra attention to any realities brought to your attention lately, especially the ones that are hard to see. Those need to be dealt with. With the last and next Full Moon in Capricorn, no doubt the reckoning is evident. And the gift of any reckoning is the ability to change, grow, and claim new potential. The grit is that the real is often the edgy, hard brick wall of what is.

This New Moon in Cancer opposes Capricorn and asks us how we FEEL about all of it. Feelings are important because they provide information and action steps to navigate potential changes. If Capricorn offers the what, Cancer helps us understand the how. For example, the wisdom of anger suggests the action of grounded assertion or boundary setting. The wisdom of sadness suggests we are navigating the ending before the next beginning. The wisdom of anxiety asks us to look at our relationship with fear and control, leaning into uncertainty itself. The wisdom of joy or abundance tasks us to explore our upper-level threshold limits.

In truth, all feelings matter because they hold vital data. Sometimes, that information is rooted squarely in the present. Often though, feelings also have roots in the past as well. Take that same righteous anger and run it through some magnifying past trauma, and those same boundaries may be a fortress when only a fence is needed, or it may become a blowtorch when only a spark is required. That same present sadness may open a well of untapped past tears that flood our entire system. That same anxiety run through a wounded filter can become debilitating. Thus, feelings always offer important insight into our inner terrain. They tell us what is arising in our system, what past may require healing, and what present essential actions to take.

And friends, some action is needed. So, some clear-feeling filtering will be required.

You see, this New Moon happens a day after the United States Solar Return (aka birthday). Looking at that Solar Return chart (with the ascendant squarely in Scorpio, Cancerian Sun, and Gemini Moon in the 8th house), we can predict some significantly transformative times ahead. Themes of power, truth, realness, sovereignty, freedom, and shadows coming to light permeate the next year. There will be revelations we will have to reckon with. There will be things we can’t unsee. Think about the metaphors described in Campell’s hero’s journey or a phoenix rising from the ashes, and you have the depth of Scorpio. Something must end so something more true can take its place. In that way, Scorpio is magical in its potential but brutal in its intensity.  Because Scorpio rules the underworld, few people travel there by choice. We will be called to do some collective shadow work. We already are.  The alchemy of shadow work is integration, wholeness, and realization of incredible, almost magical potential. The challenge is we must walk through our inner darkness and face some long-lost dragons.

I suspect we will have some feels about all of it. This New Moon is an extra sensitive time. Good. That means its working. Vital information is arising, but we will have to feel to have it revealed. So be mindful and curious, keeping one foot in the river of feeling (Cancer) and the other on the dry land of reason (Capricorn). Use that soul screen if you are a feeling type; the collective empathy meter is high. It will take some time to pause the reactivity of our past feeling senses to claim a grounded, present response. Seek support or assistance if the undertow is especially heavy or the past is especially encroaching on the present. Often, we need a lifeline through stormy seas. Allow self-compassion and self-care to create a safe place to feel. This means taking some time, solitude, and solace to observe and reflect before we act.

As we navigate the intense emotional tides, allow feelings to guide us toward meaningful insights and transformation, offering compass points integral to decision-making, understanding, transformation, and real change.

Because if the last few years have taught us anything, and I hope they have, it is that we need to weather the storms together. Gone are the days of selfish idealism (though some may try to keep them alive). They are impossibly unsustainable. The good news is when we join forces for the common good, amazing things can occur. The challenge is, of course, as a people, nation, or world, it’s a radically new way of thinking. Let our individuality be seen as a means to add value to the whole, and let our freedom be an extension of the well-being of all.

“Emotions are an essential part of who you are.

Denying them is denying reality itself.”– Paul Ekman
