New Moons usher in New Beginnings. And this New Moon is no exception. Cancer is the sign most connected to the mother archetype, the ability to bring forth new life. Opposite Pluto, though, we are reminded that birthing new life is both powerful and hard, triumphant and uncertain, freeing and ego-busting. Pluto takes us to the edge of our identity and asks us to step into the new.
You’re welcome, and get ready.
Because the most challenging stage of birth is the one right before it’s over. It asks us to go further than we think we can. To push through what we really don’t want to. To relax when we want to bolt. This New Moon trines Pisces, reminding us if we surrender to the current, it will take us to our destination. As they say in recovery circles, let go or be dragged. We end up in the same place either way.
Additionally, this New Moon occurs as the Nodes of the Moon retrograde into new signs where they will stay for the next 18 months. In the last 18 months, we have experienced the Nodes in the signs Taurus (North Node) and Scorpio (South Node). The South Node now will be in the sign of Libra, and the North Node in Aries, signifying yet another new beginning.
The Nodes of fate denote worldly events or themes full of potential and growth edges. They map the terrain. Thus, a shift in nodes is a symbolic shift in significant patterns, personal and collective. The last time the nodes were in Aries (NN) and Libra (SN) was from December 2004 to June 2006. So think back to those years to get a glimpse of current patterns. Additionally, check the house placement (Libra/Aries) to get a sense of what life areas will be activated for you. (You can always contact me to look at these patterns in more depth.)
As with all nodal configurations, we often seek the high road by also exploring the low one. So, we can expect themes that ask us to balance the rights of the collective and the individual, dependence and independence, peace and conflict. I expect us to have mend the polarity created in the last few years one way or another. Good and healthy conflict is a North Node Aries experience, as is picking a side. In fact, certain issues don’t have another side to gauge or weigh equally. These subjects refer to concepts, principles, or ideas that are true regardless of time, culture, or location. They are self-evident, indisputable, and applicable to all human beings across different cultures. Examples of these one-sided universal truths may include themes such as honesty, respect, love, justice, and equality. They are fundamental to human existence and are thought to transcend differences in race, religion, nationality, and ideology. Acknowledging universal truths can help build a sense of shared values and understanding among people from different backgrounds and perspectives. They just are, or they aren’t. Aries isn’t subtle.
Which brings us back to the Cancer New Moon. Because the opposite of empathy is neutrality. If empathy is emotional understanding and connection, especially in the realm of universal truths, neutrality lacks this emotional involvement or commitment.
Where do you choose neutrality when you need to stand for a universal truth? What are you avoiding not to rock the boat? I suspect this New Moon and into the next 18 months, we will be living with those questions.
In fact, The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is, “A dark shadow or mantle thrown suddenly over the right shoulder” (Rudhyar). The interpretation of this symbol suggests the irrevocability of human obligation to the reality of which they are a part. We all have a date with destiny, and that time is now. It signifies the presence of a significant challenge or transformative event that prompts an individual to take a stand or assume a position of authority in navigating the situation. Yet with this power comes great responsibility on a personal and collective level. That is why our heart, the ability to empathize and feel another’s experience, is so important. Because Aries North Node times are about inspired action. We best ensure the most authentic and SELF-led parts choose the direction.
No doubt you will be called to action. None of us will be exempt. (Again look to the house placement to get a sense of your flavor or action potential).
How will you choose to lead? Which leaders will you choose to follow? Which causes and messages will you choose to champion? How can you help another in any small way or act of support?
Because that is the world we are being urged to create. One grounded in those universal one-sided authentic truths grounded in empathy.
Not sure about you, but a world like that sounds about right.
“To really change the world, we have to help people change the way they see things. Global betterment is a mental process, not one that requires huge sums of money or a high level of authority. Change has to be psychological. So if you want to see real change, stay persistent in educating humanity on how similar we all are than different. Don’t only strive to be the change you want to see in the world, but also help all those around you see the world through commonalities of the heart so that they would want to change with you. This is how humanity will evolve to become better. This is how you can change the world. The language of the heart is mankind’s main common language.”
