Thank goodness for Virgo. The archetype tasked with improving, bettering, and upgrading systems and the parts within us that focus on details, minutia, and daily tasks required by everyday life.
Beautiful and needed qualities, no doubt. Especially now.
Why? Because there is a lot of truth revelation. Uranus stations retrograde the day before this New Moon, ushering in technical truth bombs we can’t unsee. Think consequences. Inner and outer earthquakes. Results of past choices and actions. Unexpected events and shocking surprises that pack a LOT of meaning. Pay attention to any such revelations showing up in your life. They are vitally important. Additionally, on the same day (9/1), Pluto retrogrades into Capricorn for the last time in this two-and-a-half-decade cycle, asking us to tie up any loose ends. It invites us to deal with shadow layers in our foundations and structures that are no longer sustainable or working. Saturn also opposes the New Moon, getting us grounded in what it is. Lastly, this New Moon opens the gate for the upcoming eclipses. So, get ready. Because change is coming, and we aren’t going back. For better or for worse, we can’t.
We are being called to show up in valuable and essential ways. Virgo medicine reminds us that the skills needed to support and create significant change start with small steps. Every decision, every action, and every choice matters. Virgo reminds us of the need for humility, accountability, discipline, and real service. What we do matters. What we say matters. What we choose matters. Because those forces determine where we end up.
Which brings us to another Virgo superpower.
Discernment.
The word discernment comes from the Latin word discernere, meaning “separate.” The ability to discern well is within all of us. To separate fact from opinion, right from wrong, and truth from illusion. In fact, Virgo’s radar of discernment is so precise it distinguishes the gradients within the parts, between the good and the better, and even between the better and the best. Virgos and the Virgo parts of us sometimes get criticized for being tactlessly realistic. This is not a liability, of course. Virgo truth is not always the one we want. It is likely the one we need.
Of course, we can channel this force through our wounded parts. Here, Virgo discernment ceases to be non-biased or scientific but becomes a closed system of indiscrimination or unawareness. Shadow Virgo stops seeking and starts becoming fundamental and absolute. It can become a closed approach, lacking the ability or desire to perceive and differentiate, leading to flawed decision-making or even confusion. We will want to watch for all the ways we humans tend to bypass the realness of complexity via the comfort of absolutism.
The Sabian symbol for this New Moon echoes all these themes: A bride with her veil pulled away. This symbol represents a moment where hidden truths are suddenly revealed, and illusions are stripped away, forcing one to confront reality. It also symbolizes potential liberation as the removal of the veil allows freedom from societal constraints and embracing authenticity. We can’t change what we can’t fully see.
Because Virgo reminds us that we all have the responsibility to improve, to be better, to discern right from wrong. And improvement is not based on what is best for some, but what is best for all. Because true service involves empathy, understanding, compassion, selflessness, and a commitment to making a positive impact, whether on an individual or a community level. True service comes from a place of humility and compassion, where the focus is on helping others without expecting anything in return.
Imagine that kind of world. That is the change required.
Virgo orders the chaos of change. It breaks down the overwhelming into small, necessary steps. Every action we take, and every decision we make determines the end result. Virgo plants seeds for the future as it harvests learning from the past.
So, use your power of real discernment, standing up for what is true and right. Because we are not just living in history—we are making it. We are the architects of tomorrow, and the principles we stand for today will become the foundations upon which future generations build. History is not just a record of what has happened; it is the story of how we rise to the challenges of our time, how we choose courage over complacency, and truth over convenience. We are the authors of this chapter, and the ink we use is our commitment to integrity, honor, and truth (all Virgo qualities). Let us make history with intention, knowing that the world we create now will echo into the years to come.
“It’s so easy to think that because you can’t do something extraordinary, you can’t do anything at all. It’s easy to decide that if you can’t overhaul your entire life in one fell swoop, then you might as well just do nothing. We started where we could, with what we had. I hope it’s just the beginning for us.”
