We humans are complex creatures. Complex because we both think and feel, overlapping these textures of information. This dynamic is revealed perfectly in the astro dance between Gemini and Sagittarius and is also reflected in our own minds. The left and right hemispheres of the brain allow for symbiotic yet opposing balance. It is often said that left-brain-dominant people rely on logic and reason. While the right side and type tend to be more creative and spontaneous. Science tells us that division is actually more nuanced, though, where the “… left brain was better at language and rhythm, the right brain was better at emotions and melody.” (WebMD)
Either way, the goal is to utilize all of our intelligences to best gather and decipher data.
Sagittarius and Gemini are about perceiving and transmitting information. While Gemini does represent the logical, rational, open-minded, and curiosity-driven parts of us, Sagittarius strives to consolidate those facts into meaning. In this description, it is obvious why it is so vital to do both well. Inaccurate facts give rise to inaccurate truths. Erroneous truths reflect erroneous facts.
As I’ve mentioned in past blogs about our current energetic cycles, problems repeat until we solve them. Yet, how exactly can we find solutions? Astrology has some advice here. We first must gather and understand all facets of the problem with as little bias as possible (Gemini) and then use our power of deduction to decipher the truth (Sagittarius). This is simple in theory, but perhaps not so easy in practice.
Why? Because often, we humans decide the truth not based on facts but on how those facts make us feel. And feelings are notoriously unreliable. Not in their existence. That is always important. They are unreliable in their validity to the present moment. Often, feelings carry over from past hurts or experiences or are filtered through parts of us that have an agenda- namely safety and security. That is why conformation bias, or any biases really, are such powerful forces. It is so powerful, in fact, that we often don’t even know we are doing it. We just know we feel like we are right. And feeling right feels exceptionally good.
Listen to news that agrees with you, and you will be more apt to accept the facts given. Listen to data that doesn’t agree with your present narrative, and you are more apt to reject that data- regardless of the validity of the facts presented. In short, we humans don’t like to change our minds. It makes us feel uncertain and unsafe. This is why polarity, even conspiracy, is so enticing. It makes things easy. Black and white. Right or wrong. My ally or my enemy.
Additionally, when we read information, whether a news story or a social media post that confirms our beliefs, we get a little hit of dopamine. Add some algorithms and echo chambers, and our minds are easy to control.
This doesn’t just happen externally, either. It happens internally. Those stories and spells we’ve adopted to keep us “safe” shape the way we see the world. Whether our assessment is accurate or not is something to assess. Every once in a while, it makes sense to clean our filters. To fact check ourselves. To not know. To rethink some things we think we know.
This is why Sagittarius is the sign most associated with hope, faith, and optimism. Examining and rethinking our truths can set us free. What if it is safe to be authentically you? What if your sensitivity is your superpower, not a liability? What if joy was attainable and the other shoe didn’t need to drop? What if you are meant to own your authority in a real way? What if the world is way more complex than we think it is? What if the goal is to revel in the complexity rather than fight over the need for sides? Challenging our thinking to reassess the actual truth can open up extraordinary avenues of potential.
Doing Sagittarius well means we need to fact-check our truths now and then. We need to be more strategic, reasonable, and open rather than closed and convicted. We need to understand the nuances of different types of truth. Relative truths and personal truths are not the same as universal truths. This is part of the complexity.
The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon echoes this theme. It is “two men playing chess”. Chess is a complex game. Thus, this image reminds us of the need for strategy, to see outside our norms, to play the dialectic game where we listen and move according to what our opponent does. It also tells us there is a winner and a loser. There are truths that are way more right than others. It is our job to sort those out.
This truth-sayer assessment is the correction we are living in both our inner and outer worlds. It can be expected to heighten even further in the years (decades) to come. Being able to discern fact from opinion is a required skill.
Because truth is really important. Vital Really. It shapes our thoughts, words, and actions. It has the power to start wars and end them.
So, inner and outer, let’s commit to the long game of strategy and perseverance. Of critical thinking and embracing complexity rather than narratives that fit secure shapes in our mind. Let’s ask more questions. Let’s assess our thought leaders and influencers. Let’s understand the bias that exists like the air around us and within us. Let’s be careful where we get our information (hint: it’s not with conflict entrepreneurs and the rage peddlers). Let’s engage in dialog not with the intent to tell how it is but to learn something we don’t know.
Because truth always has a way of coming to light. Why not welcome it.
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it–always.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
