Virgo represents the part of us that strives for more. The part that seeks improvement and what could always be better. An earthly sign, it aims to make the impossible possible.
A lofty goal indeed.
Thus, a New Moon in Virgo offers insight into what could be. That’s the good news. The challenging part of Virgo, though, reminds us it will take some diligent everyday hard work to get it. Because big impossibilities and profound potentials are not birthed instantly. They take dedication, discipline, sacrifice, routine, and service. Those vital words of co-creation we like to forget.
In truth, those words and the ‘work’ of Virgo are not meant to punish us but reveal us. Virgo, a powerful Earth sign, can certainly ground us. It is meant to. Always opposite the mystical Pisces, it reminds us transcendence is fun, maybe a bit intoxicating, undoubtedly profound, but we are not meant to LIVE there. Spiritual practice is only valid if we can weave it into our daily lives. It is easy to be enlightened in an Ashram. Try doing it in real life.
That’s a whole different experience. Therein resides Virgo work.
It fits the Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is, “A man becoming aware of nature spirits and normally unseen spiritual agencies.” Because Virgo reminds us that we are spiritual beings having a very human experience. Straddling the world of the seen and the unseen, Virgo bridges the gap between what is possible and reality, imagination and reason, flow and form. This is why words like precision, responsibility, accountability, and humility are so crucial to navigating Virgo well. We are extensions of grace in action, humble partners in the whole. Shadowy qualities emerge when we deem ourselves omniscient rather than simply being the vehicle through which it flows.
This is why discernment is a Virgo superpower. Being able to masterfully decide between the parts of us that are most whole, what information is most true, and which leaders have the most integrity. An air sign, Virgo relies on reason, logic, and rationality. As a result, Virgo truths tend to be of the blunt variety-revealing, not the validation we want but the truths we need. Reality checks are all around us.
If we are brave enough to see them.
Because we can’t improve what we can’t clearly see, the revelation must arise before the reckoning.
Mars in Gemini squares this New Moon, echoing this theme of exposing new data, options, choices, and possibilities. Additionally, Mercury entered the shadow or set-up phase of its cycle in the sign of Virgo 8/20. So, expect some areas of life to reveal fundamental and maybe inconvenient truths where the great potential is possible. Then expect to have to act accordingly.
Maybe it’s time to make amends. Be accountable. Harness some needed humility. Ignite some gratitude or joy. Change our minds about something we thought we knew. Maybe it’s time to engage clear powers of discernment, sacrifice, humility, and disciple.
Because we DO have co-creative power in our lives. We are extensions of grace meant to serve the greater good. There is some magic in that knowing and the potential for change. But new paths require a commitment to the diligent soul work of new patterns and habits. Every choice we make determines the direction we travel.
Where are your choices taking you? Is that the most inspired direction?
“Little things
over time
make big differences,
as true for depletion as it is
for progress.”
