Scorpio New Moon 11-7 —The wise use of power

  • by

Astrology, in its most basic form, is a study of elements. The elements are symbols that play the symphony of both the world around us and within us.

Earth, fire, water, and air.

Taking a look at your own chart will reveal a specific and unique elemental pattern. Perhaps you are more fire, less water or more air, less earth. Of course, this imbalance is not a “problem”, but a suggestion based on a divine plan we can only hypothesize about. With more water, you are learning to feel more profoundly and intuitively. More fire equates with more focus on assertion and creativity. More earth requires a more grounded sense of self. More air offers open curiosity and a voracious mind.

Any imbalance is meant to bring balance.

On a grander scale, the more significant star cycles ask something similar of us collectively. Every year a new curriculum to focus on and every month an opportunity to hone the skills. This New Moon puts both the Sun and Moon in Scorpio, a water sign. Water represents the fluid nature within and without, the prominence of feelings, intuition, creativity, and more psychic stuff. Water resides in the realm that is perhaps unseen to the naked eye but is altogether present. Each water sign is subtly different though. Each a different flavor of the element it represents.

While Pisces tend to flow to the upper realms of spirit, and Cancer (more on that soon) into the heart center, Scorpio asks us to go down. Down into the shadowy depths of who we are. Scorpio is honest, raw, and shockingly real. In fact, it has been said water signs hold the most power (water as an element can move mountains, quench fire, and withstand wind after all). Fixed water Scorpio is the master magician itself.

Why?

Because Scorpio embraces the darkness and the light. It revels in the vulnerable mystery. Kundalini, prana, mana, will, and holy spirit are all words that represent the way we channel divine animation. How clear that channel is, depends on how whole we are. My will verses thy will. It is a delicate balance Scorpio initiates.

Thus, real power is the ability to face the darkness of our own psyche and come through transformed and ultimately more whole. There is immense potential, often ignored, shamed, and lying dormant, in the shadow parts, because they hold the key to the totality of who we are.

And with this power comes great responsibility.

Only the user can channel this power wisely …or not.

Think of the science that discovered how to split the atom. It unleashed tremendous potential, unparalleled before then. A weapon or a tool? That’s the choice. Our will can either be used to create or destroy. Love or fear that is always the choice.

As Einstein said in May 1946, “The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything except our thinking. Thus, we are drifting toward catastrophe beyond conception. We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.”

Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should.

In its highest form, Scorpio taps into divine realms of truth, integrity, and emotional tenacity. But in its lowest form, Scorpio mistakes itself for the divine. Instead of being an extension of God, it mistakes itself FOR God.

It is a vital distinction.

It is so easy to become swayed by the heady and intoxicating nature of self-riotousness power. You don’t need me to tell you that. Just take a look around you, and you see what happens when power becomes grandiose, pretentious, bombastic, and ultimately self-serving.

What is the correct use of power?

That is the question of this New Moon.

In fact, that has been part of the learning of past year 18 months with the nodal focus in Leo- Aquarius (fire-air). It will also be the theme for the next 18 months but from a different perspective. This New Moon also ushers in the nodes of destiny switching with the North Node in Cancer (water) and the South Node in Capricorn (earth). A new curriculum is being presented, and school is now in session.

What does it mean?

Think of the South Node as the problem and the North Node the solution. The intent is not to fall into duality, but correction. In other words, what will be most helpful to support our highest destiny and the shortest path to our best solution, is more Cancer and less Capricorn. In form, we will see shadow layers of Capricorn showing up over the next 18 months to offer conscious choice points of Cancer healing.

The choice between:
Less logic- more empathy
Less toxic masculinity- more empowered femininity
Less selfishness- more cooperation
Less greed-more altruism
Less control-more trust
Less head-more heart
Less intolerance- more collaboration
Less division-more connection
Less force-more flow
Less habit-more possibility

This is just the beginning of the correction of the recalibration of power.

I will be speaking quite a bit about these themes in the coming year and offering opportunities of connection, healing, and support for those choosing to do the conscious work, but for now, let us focus on what this New Moon is gifting us with regarding these larger cycles.

This New Moon cracks the door to our closets, peering into the shadows, deciding what to clean out first as it relates to our personal sense of directed will. Scorpio digs deep. It reminds us real power is not false bravado, bluster, and intimidation. In fact, that is a glaring example of unresolved insecurity and self-doubt. Real power is steadfast, dependable, bold, and grounded in both humility and altruism. Real power comes not from feigning courage, but actually living it. Real power is also the ability to wade in the water of empathy without needing to front a facade of “strength”, balancing feeling with logic.

Scorpio knows this.

The most intense of all water signs, the language of Scorpio is Universal Truth. Thus, it is often paradoxical as this type of truth often conflicts with selfish egoic ones. Paradox because the myth of reality we were taught isn’t actually the way it is. For example, Scorpio shatters the myth that being devoid of emotion means you are “tough”. In fact, it points out to ignore feeling is to reside in frailty, true weakness, and devoid of wisdom. True strength is the ability to feel deeply. Universal truth is not always easy because it shatters the perceived “safety” of what we think we know.

Which is why Scorpio times tend to trigger our vulnerability. It is not evoking emotion from you to prove your fragility but reveal your utter fortitude and resilience. It is to offer you a truth bomb that explodes the limits of your heart to be a more powerful instrument of the divine. It is to show you the Truth so you can take your power back from any misconceptions.

This is one reason Scorpio has a bit of a brutal reputation. It is messy. Often really messy. Scorpio reveals the hard stuff with or without our permission. If we choose to ignore the early signs, perhaps consciously reveling in our particular flavor of denial or unconsciously stumbling over the obvious, Scorpio just offers more “help” in the form of uncovering. This often looks like things getting more intense, uncertain, chaotic, dense, and things not “going our way”. It feels like grief, shock, disorientation, and the rug being pulled out from under us.

This brings us to an another important Scorpio truth (which is exciting to our soul but terrifying to our egos).

The world is not always, as it appears.

From a Scorpio perspective, things aren’t falling apart they are being uncovered. Remember the paradoxical nature of Scorpio- what is labeled “bad” is often exactly right from a soul perspective. It just may not be very comfortable or pleasant. That is why the element of trust is of such vital importance to navigating Scorpio terrain. Let us remember, “faith is the ability to take refuge in uncertainty”(Adyashanti).

Which is a bit of fresh air. This Moon has that too (with a trine to Neptune, sextile to Pluto, and Jupiter moving into Sagittarius a day later). Some shadow work sprinkled with faith, hope, trust, and a sense of optimism. Perhaps, we see, way in the distance, some light at the end of a tunnel. Maybe, it is just a small speck, a glimpse of recognition, but enough to revive us on our journey. There is light even after the most dark of nights.

Either way, let us remember Scorpio times appear chaotic but are ushering in a needed lesson, rejuvenating, expanding, and awakening us to more of who we are. As we venture forth let us evoke faith and trust, there is something bigger at work. There are pieces to the puzzle that are fitting together in ways we may not yet understand. Where and what is emerging depends on the Moons placement in your personal chart of course, at 15 degrees Scorpio. (If you need help finding that, contact me).

Let’s seek it out instead of resist it. Trace the edges of a Truth that is beginning to emerge to allow you to see through the veil of separation.

There is an ancient power awakening within you.

Use it wisely.

“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace”
